Send playlist pitches from your own Gmail

On the Basic and Pro plans you can connect your Gmail account and send a pitch to a curator's public email address without leaving PlaylistLookup. The email goes out from your own Gmail account, so it sits in your Sent folder and the curator's reply comes to your inbox.

How it works

  1. Open your profile. In the Gmail sending card, click Sign in with Google.
  2. Google shows which permissions PlaylistLookup asks for (see below). After you allow them, you are back in PlaylistLookup and your Gmail address shows as connected.
  3. In the directory or a saved list, click the send button on a playlist. The button only appears when the playlist has a public email address.
  4. Write your email. The To field is the curator's address and cannot be changed. The subject starts as "Song submission for your playlist" and you can edit it. The message is empty, so you write it yourself.
  5. Click Send. The email goes out right away as a plain text email from your Gmail account. If the playlist is in a saved list, it moves to Contacted.

What access you give Google

When you connect, PlaylistLookup asks Google for three permissions:

  • openid: confirms which Google account you signed in with.
  • email: shows PlaylistLookup your Gmail address, so the app can show which account sends.
  • gmail.send: lets PlaylistLookup send emails from your account. It gives no access to read, delete or change the mail in your inbox.

PlaylistLookup also asks for offline access, so it can keep sending without asking you to sign in to Google each time. The Google tokens are stored encrypted. PlaylistLookup keeps a record of each email you send through it: the recipient, subject, message and date.

Limits

  • Basic and Pro include 500 emails per month. The month starts with your first email, and the count resets one month later. When you reach the limit, sending stops until the reset.
  • There is no separate limit per day on top of the monthly one.
  • Each email goes to one curator. A message can be up to 10,000 characters and a subject up to 255.
  • Gmail has its own sending limits for your account. Those apply as well.

What it does not do

  • It does not guarantee a reply or a playlist placement. Whether a curator answers is up to them.
  • It does not send follow-ups for you. You can set a follow-up date on a saved playlist as a reminder, but nothing is sent automatically.
  • It does not track opens or clicks.
  • It does not schedule emails or add attachments. Put your track link in the message.
  • It does not read your inbox.

Who can use it

Sending from Gmail is part of the Basic and Pro plans (see pricing). On a free account the send button is shown but locked. A free account has 2 searches per week, and you can write to the curators you find from your own email program. Another tool that sends pitches through Gmail is PlaylistSupply; see how PlaylistSupply's Gmail pitching compares.

Frequently asked questions

Can PlaylistLookup read my email?

No. The Gmail permission PlaylistLookup asks for is "send email on your behalf" (gmail.send). It lets the app send the emails you write, and it does not give access to read, delete or change the mail in your inbox.

Do the emails show up in my own Gmail?

Yes. The email is sent from your own Gmail account, so a copy stays in your Sent folder and the curator's reply goes to your inbox.

How many emails can I send?

Basic and Pro include 500 emails per month. The month starts with your first email and the count resets one month later.

Can I send one pitch to many curators at once?

No. You write each email yourself and it goes to one curator at a time.

How do I disconnect Gmail?

Open your profile and click Disconnect in the Gmail sending card. That deletes the stored Google tokens. To also remove the permission on Google's side, open the third-party access page of your Google account.
