What the playlist health check measures
The PlaylistLookup health check scores a playlist on five signals. Each signal has its own score, and together they give the overall score at the top of the result.
- Discovered On. How many of the artists in the playlist list it in the Discovered On section of their Spotify profile, and at which position. A playlist with many followers that no artist lists is a warning sign.
- Follower growth. How the follower count of the playlist developed over time. Sudden jumps can point to bought followers.
- Genre fit. Whether the genres of the artists fit what the playlist presents itself as, such as its name, and whether they hang together.
- Curator profile. How many followers the curator's own Spotify profile has.
- AI assessment. A few sentences that explain the score in plain language.
The result also shows an estimate of the monthly listeners of the playlist, as a range. It is based on the Discovered On positions and the artists' own monthly listeners.
How the playlist health check works
- Click Check health in the Health column of a playlist in your search results or in one of your lists. On the Playlist health page you can also check the playlists of a whole list.
- PlaylistLookup reads the Discovered On sections of the artists in the playlist and then runs the AI assessment. The check runs in the background, so you can keep browsing while the Health column shows Checking.
- When the check is done, a notice appears. The result opens in a window with the score, followers, tracks, last track added, the estimated monthly listeners, the signal rows, the AI assessment and the follower history.
- Each check you start uses one check from your plan. The result stays in your account as it was on the day of the check, and opening it again later is free. To get newer data, click Check again in the result, which uses one check.
Example result of a playlist health check
This example uses fictional data: the playlist and the curator do not exist. A real result shows the same fields.
How to read the health score
The health score runs from 0 to 100. The result shows it with one of three labels.
| Score | Label |
|---|---|
| 70 and higher | Real audience |
| 45 to 69 | Mixed signals |
| Below 45 | Red flags |
Limits of the playlist health check
- Every playlist you check gets a Discovered On scan, whatever its size. The Discovered On score needs data from at least 3 of the artists in the playlist, or from all of them when the playlist has fewer.
- The check judges a playlist on the artists it would show up for if its followers listened. Smaller artists list playlists that bring them just a few listeners, so a small playlist with real listeners shows up there too. In our checks, the Discovered On sections of very big artists mostly list very big playlists, so when all the artists in a playlist are very big, not being listed says little.
- The listener estimate is a range and an estimate. It is not a number from Spotify.
- The number of checks a month depends on your plan (see below). There is no limit per day.
What the playlist health check does not do
- It does not prove that a playlist is botted. It shows warning signs.
- It does not read private Spotify statistics of the curator.
- It does not tell you whether a curator will add your track.
